Chapter 5: The Final Deception
A police officer quietly informed me:
"You and Shi Lei called the police at the same time."
I had prepared my report in advance and secretly hit send the moment the bodyguards burst in. I also reported my brother’s imprisonment.
The police swiftly rescued him.
My uncle was charged with an additional count of abuse.
Both he and Shi Lei’s father were detained, awaiting trial.
I apologized to Shi Lei for getting his father imprisoned.
He reassured me—they had brought it upon themselves.
I took my brother to the hospital for a full checkup, even consulting psychiatric experts.
The results?
He wasn’t mentally ill at all.
He was completely sane.
But he wasn’t my real brother either—tests confirmed no blood relation.
He admitted it: he was the son of my uncle’s comrade-in-arms. With no family left, he had stayed in my uncle’s villa with me.
I gifted him the latest smartphone and some cash.
Now, he was living a normal life again.
Days later, Shi Lei told me he wanted to propose—properly.
He asked me to think about it.
I was happy. His love was genuine; I could see it.
At dinner that night, I shared the news with my brother.
He seemed thrilled, promising a beautiful wedding gift.
But when he lowered his head to eat, I caught a flicker of coldness in his eyes.
On a bright afternoon, Shi Lei proposed.
I pretended to hesitate—then said yes.
That evening, my brother brought out expensive wine to celebrate.
In my uncle’s home, the mute servant prepared a feast.
Just the two of us.
He poured me a full glass.
"Little sister, you’ve found happiness at last. I’m so happy for you."
I smiled. "Thank you, brother."
Then I asked, "Could you fetch my phone from my room? I need to make a call."
He obliged eagerly.
The moment he left, I switched our glasses.
When he returned, he raised his wine.
"A toast to your future!"
We drank.
Minutes later, he collapsed, clutching his stomach.
"Qiqi… you switched the glasses. How did you know it was poisoned?"
I held up my phone.
"Remember the new phone I gave you? It had a listening device. I heard every word between you and your boss."
His employer and Shi Lei’s father were enemies.
His only purpose? To kill me.
My uncle had planned to sell my rare blood to Shi Lei’s father—their rival. To stop it, his boss sent him to eliminate me.
When he infiltrated the villa, my uncle caught him.
That’s why he was imprisoned.
My uncle spared him only because of a tracking chip in his body—his boss still thought he was here, waiting for his chance.
"Even without the poison, you were doomed," I said. "The day I was locked up was meant to be your last."
Gasping, he snarled, "You’ll pay for this. The police—"
I showed him the recording. "Evidence. Already handed over."
He convulsed, foaming at the mouth—then went still.
I made two calls: one to the police, one to Shi Lei.
Officers and an ambulance arrived swiftly. Shi Lei stayed by my side as I gave my statement.
Afterward, I couldn’t bear to step back into my uncle’s house.
Shi Lei pressed a key into my hand—to his private villa.
I hesitated… then took it.
I’d made up my mind.
My rare Rh-negative blood was too precious to waste.
As I gazed at Shi Lei, a thought burned in my chest:
This blood won’t be spilled for nothing.
